Schachmann App
Browser-based Tourism App for regional storytelling
How can the story of an 18th-century Enlightenment figure be told in a way that still captivates today? The municipality of Königshain demonstrates this for the 300th birthday of Carl Adolph Gottlob von Schachmann: with a browser-based tourism app that uses WebXR technology for regional storytelling.
The tourism app combines interactive biography, AR image galleries, and detailed 3D models of historical sites into an immersive historical experience. Visitors explore Schachmann’s drawings as augmented reality projections in their own space, discover the mysterious Kuckuckstein and Totenstein as interactive XR exhibits, and follow Schachmann’s footsteps through Königshain and its surroundings on a GPS-guided hiking map.
What makes it special: The tourism app runs directly in the browser without installation – on any device, whether smartphone, tablet, or desktop. Offline functionality and app-like operation make it the ideal companion on-site. No App Store dependency, no separate development for different platforms.
This browser-based solution demonstrates how tourism regions can bring history to life with WebXR technology: scalable, accessible, and without technical hurdles. A concept that can be applied to any region with exciting stories.
